2027 Colors of the Year: Every Brand’s Pick for Small Rooms

The 2027 Colors of the Year have been rolling in since August, and the direction is even clearer than 2026’s: green is not a trend anymore, it’s the default. Four major brands picked a green. Behind them comes a second wave of smoky blues, and the warm earth family — terracotta, coffee brown, dusty pink — holding its ground. One big name is still missing: Pantone hasn’t announced yet (expected closer to December), and we’ll update this guide the day it lands. Until then, here is every major 2027 pick so far, translated — as always on this blog — for rooms that are small, real and lived in. (Catching up? Start with our 2026 colors of the year guide to see how fast the palette is moving.)

The big picture: 2027 in one paragraph

If 2026 was warm and earthy with green as the star, 2027 is green going deeper and blues getting smokier. The safest shades got more colorful (a soft celery green instead of another white), the bold shades got moodier (moss, coffee, terracotta), and the “new neutral” job now belongs to blue-grey and sage instead of grey. For small rooms this is good news: mid-tone colors are exactly the ones that blur edges and add depth without darkness.

The greens (four brands can’t be wrong)

Celery — Sherwin-Williams (SW 6421). The lightest 2027 pick: a soft, muted green with yellow undertones, announced in September as part of the brand’s wellness-leaning Rewild forecast. For small rooms this is the whole-wall candidate — bright enough for a north-facing bedroom, colorful enough to feel like a decision. Pair with cream trim and pale wood.

Webster Green — Benjamin Moore (HC-130). A rich, historic mid-green (announced October 14) that the brand pulled from its archives rather than inventing — a deliberate “enduring, not trendy” pick. At this depth it’s a one-wall, cabinet or door color for small spaces: try it on a kitchen’s lower cabinets or a bedroom’s headboard wall, with warm whites around it.

Grounded — Behr (T27-01). The deep end: a mossy olive green with brown undertones (announced in August). In small rooms, use it like our bold shades — powder rooms, reading corners, a color-drenched entryway moment. It is the coziest color on this list and the least forgiving of bad lighting; warm bulbs are mandatory.

Soulful Sage — Dulux. A pale, heritage-feeling sage — the quietest green of the year, aimed at calm, layered rooms. Small-space role: the bridge color. Sage walls let you run bolder 2027 shades on doors, cabinets and textiles without a fight.

The smoky blues

Cottage Door — Valspar (8004-38E). The first announcement of the season (early August): a muted blue-grey with warm undertones that genuinely behaves like a neutral. Bedrooms and living rooms in small homes can carry it on all four walls; it also earns its name on actual doors, inside and out.

Artifact — Glidden/PPG (PPG10-16). A warmer, smokier blue (LRV around 21, so properly mid-deep). Small-room use: one statement wall, a bathroom vanity, or built-ins. Blues this deep recede visually — the wall feels further away than it is, which is the oldest small-room trick there is.

The earths: terracotta, coffee, dusty pink

Deep Rooted — Dutch Boy (311-7DB). An orange-infused terracotta at real depth (LRV 17). The 2026 mahogany energy, softened: front doors, dining nooks, one bedroom wall. Keep companions pale — cream, warm white, natural linen.

French Press Coffee — Dunn-Edwards. The brown wave continues: a deep coffee shade for the rooms that used to get black or charcoal. In small spaces it’s a trim, door and cabinet color more than a wall color — unless the room is a tiny den that wants to feel like a library.

Rose Earth — Graham & Brown. A chalky, dusty pink — the grown-up end of pink, closer to plaster than to bubblegum. Small bedrooms and bathrooms take it beautifully, especially with brass and warm white.

Pueblo — C2 Paint (C2-510). An earthy mauve between pink and terracotta (LRV ~52, so mid-light). The chameleon of the list: reads pink in daylight, clay-toned by lamplight. Lovely in small living rooms that need warmth without saturation.

How small rooms should use the 2027 palette

  1. Light greens & blue-grey are your new whole-room bases (Celery, Soulful Sage, Cottage Door) — they’ve replaced white and greige for 2027.
  2. Mid greens & smoky blue go on the one surface — a wall, the cabinets, the doors (Webster Green, Artifact).
  3. Deep earths are accents with presence (Grounded, Deep Rooted, French Press) — small rooms, small doses, warm light.
  4. Sample like it matters — 2027’s shades are undertone-heavy; greens go yellow or blue depending on your light. The poster-size swatch ritual from our best wall colors for small rooms guide applies double this year.
